Carolina Family Counseling, PLLC 

Though I moved to Wilmington, NC in July 2021, I had been providing counseling and support services to Charlotte-area children and their families for over 30 years. With an extensive history serving clients who have developmental disabilities, medical and mental health challenges, I truly enjoy working collaboratively with children and their families to find practical solutions to their daily life challenges. Utilizing a strengths-based holistic approach, I help children and families build an individualized “coping skill toolbox” that is unique to them. Education:  I received my BA Degree in Psychology from UNC Chapel Hill in 1991, my Masters in Social Work from UNC Chapel Hill in 1996, and my Clinical Social Work Certification  (LCSW) for NC in 1999. Experience:  During graduate school, I trained at UNC Chapel Hill’s Neurosciences Hospital on their inpatient psychiatric hospital ,and on the outpatient family therapy team, working with children and adults who were suffering from various psychiatric conditions. Throughout the years,  I have also worked in variety of home and community-based settings, including  Mecklenburg County’s early intervention program known as Children’s Developmental Services, and also served eight years as the lead Child and Adolescent Therapist for Jewish Family Services. Additionally, as a therapist with Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department's Child Development Community Policing program, I provided counseling support for children and families affected by violence and trauma.  Perhaps my greatest experience or “life training” has been parenting two children with special needs.   Because my own family has experienced life with special health issues and developmental disabilities, I truly understand the unique and complex strengths and needs of the very special children and families that I see in my individual private practice.  I welcome the opportunity to be part of your care team.
